Frequently Asked Questions
Can you install timber fencing?
Yes, timber fencing is one of our core services and one of the most common types of enquiries we receive. We install standard paling fencing, capped paling fencing, and exposed post paling fencing for residential properties. We focus on neat installation, quality materials, and a finished result that suits the home and boundary requirements.
Do you install Colorbond fencing?
Yes, we install several types of Colorbond fencing for residential properties. This includes standard Colorbond fencing as well as Colorbond fencing with plinth, sleeper, aluminium sleeper, and steel sleeper options. We can help you choose the right setup based on the look you want, the site conditions, and the requirements of your property.
Can you build picket and slat fences?
Yes, we install both picket fencing and slat fencing in a range of styles. Our picket fencing options include standard picket fencing, decorative front picket fencing, timber picket fencing, and aluminium picket fencing. Our slat fencing and privacy screen services include aluminium slat fencing, timber slat fencing, horizontal slat fencing, vertical slat fencing, and slat privacy screens.
Do you install pool area fencing?
Yes, we install blade-style pool area fencing using aluminium and steel, and we also install high timber fencing around pool areas. We do not install glass pool fencing. If you are planning fencing around a pool, speak with us early so we can understand the site and the type of fencing you need for your property.
Can you supply matching fence gates?
Yes, we install Colorbond gates, custom timber gates, slat gates, and matching fence gates designed to suit the fence style on your property. Many customers want the gate to look consistent with the rest of the fence, and we can quote for that as part of the overall project.
Do you handle fence repairs too?
Yes, we carry out fence repairs as well as full fence replacement and new fence installation. If part of your fence is damaged, leaning, broken, or no longer secure, we can inspect the condition and advise whether a repair or replacement is the better option for your property and budget.
What information should you send before asking for a quote?
To help us prepare an accurate fencing quote, it is best to send the fence type you want, exact measurements, clear photos of the site, details about the existing fence, and whether you would like a gate included. The more detail we receive at the start, the easier it is for us to understand the job properly and guide you toward the right solution for your home.
Do you always need a site inspection first?
In many cases, yes, because a site visit is the best way for us to assess the boundary, access, site conditions, and the work involved. It helps us quote more accurately and avoid surprises once the job begins. However, if you can provide clear photos and exact measurements, we may be able to quote from that information depending on the job.
What is usually included in your fencing quote?
Our quotes generally include the supply and installation of the new fence. If you need extra items such as plinths, sleepers, or gate work, we can include those based on your requirements. If old fence removal and disposal is needed, we confirm that during the quoting and booking stage so everything is clear before work starts.
Can the final price change after quoting?
Sometimes, yes, if site conditions involve extra work that is not obvious at first. For example, rocks in the ground can make post-hole digging much harder, concrete cutting can increase labour and time, and tight spaces or heavy bushes can slow down installation. We aim to be upfront about these factors and explain them clearly if they affect the price.
Do you remove and dispose of old fencing?
Yes, we can remove and dispose of existing fencing, and in many repair or replacement jobs this is part of the service we discuss with you before booking. Some customers prefer to remove the old fence themselves, so we always confirm the arrangement in advance. That way, the scope of work and pricing are clear from the start.
How soon can you start my job?
Our typical booking timeframe is about two weeks, although this can vary depending on workload, materials, and the size of the job. If you have an urgent fencing issue and the work is less time-consuming, we do our best to fit it in as soon as possible. The best way to check availability is to contact us with your job details.
Will you start on the agreed date?
We take punctuality seriously and aim to start when we say we will start. Reliable timing matters to homeowners, builders, and property managers, so we make a point of inspecting the job, providing the quote, and then beginning work on the agreed start date wherever possible. Clear communication is a big part of how we work.
What should you prepare before installation day?
Before installation begins, we ask customers to make sure there is clear access to the work area, that there are no obstacles on the boundary line, and that the boundary pegs are correctly positioned. We also ask that water and electricity are available on site. If available, the engineering drawing of the house with dimensions is also helpful because it lets us confirm which sides require fencing and what has been specified.
Can you help if my estate has fencing rules?
Yes, we can work from the information available for your property and install the fencing type required for the site. In some areas, estate guidelines, developer requirements, or local rules may influence the type or material of fence that can be installed, especially in newer developments. We recommend checking your property requirements early, and if you already have drawings or documentation, we can use that during quoting.
What materials do you use for timber fencing?
For timber fencing, we prefer to use hardwood posts along with treated pine rails, treated pine plinths, treated pine capping, and treated pine palings. Our approach is quality-focused because the materials used play a big role in the strength, appearance, and long-term performance of the fence.
Do you use quality materials on other fences?
Yes, for non-timber fencing we prefer to use materials that meet Australian standard requirements. We do not overcomplicate the process with unnecessary upselling. Our goal is to install fencing that is practical, durable, and suited to the job while maintaining the quality-first approach the business is built on.
Can you build a retaining wall too?
Yes, we build timber sleeper retaining walls and can also complete timber fence with retaining wall projects. For retaining walls, we need an engineering plan and a soil testing report before proceeding. These documents help us understand the required wall height, hole depth, and the site conditions so the work can be planned correctly and completed properly.
Why do you need engineering and soil reports?
We require an engineering plan and soil testing report for retaining wall work because these documents help define what can be built safely and how the wall needs to be constructed. They also help identify challenges that may affect the work, including difficult ground conditions such as rocky soil, which can increase installation time and complexity.
Do you install automatic or sliding gates?
At the moment, no. Our current gate services are focused on Colorbond gates, custom timber gates, slat gates, and matching fence gates. We do not currently offer automatic gates, and we are not taking on sliding gate work at this time. We prefer to be clear about that so customers know exactly what we do and do not provide.
What makes your fencing service different?
We built Dream Fencing Services around a simple standard: never compromise on quality. We focus on residential fencing, clear communication, reliable start dates, and a practical quoting process that helps customers understand exactly what is involved. Customer feedback has highlighted quick responses, competitive quotes, honest advice, tidy clean-up, and strong finished results, and that reflects the standard we aim to bring to every job.
Who do you usually work with?
We mainly work with homeowners, residential builders, and real estate agencies that need fence installation, fence replacement, retaining wall work, or repairs for residential properties. Some customers come to us when building a new home, others need to replace an ageing or damaged fence, and some need a practical solution before selling, renting, or improving the property.
Can you help me choose the right fence?
Yes, we can guide you based on your property, the fence style you prefer, the practical needs of the site, and any known requirements for the area. Some customers already know exactly what they want, while others need help comparing timber fencing, Colorbond fencing, picket fencing, slat fencing, or privacy screens. We aim to give straightforward advice so you can make a confident decision.
Do you work with real estate agencies?
Yes, we do. Real estate agencies often contact us for fence replacement, new fencing, and practical property improvement work for residential homes. We understand that these projects often require reliable timing, tidy presentation, and clear communication, especially when a property is being prepared for sale, lease, or handover.
Can you quote from photos and measurements?
Yes, in some cases we can. If you send clear photos and exact measurements, along with the fence type you want and details about the current fence, we may be able to prepare a quote without a site visit. For more complex jobs, we may still recommend an on-site inspection to make sure the quote is accurate.
What happens after I accept the quote?
Once you accept the quote, we confirm the scope of work, discuss any removal or disposal needs, schedule the job, and make sure the site is ready for installation. We also confirm any important details such as gates, sleepers, plinths, access, and the condition of the existing fence. Our goal is to make the process straightforward so you know what to expect before work begins.
How do I get started with you?
The easiest way to get started is to contact us with your property location, the type of fencing or retaining wall work you need, and any photos or measurements you already have. From there, we can discuss the job, arrange a site visit if needed, and provide a quote based on the details of your project.
